Abstract

Artificial intelligence is increasingly being integrated into judicial and legal systems to support case management, legal research, document analysis, evidence organization, and decision-making processes. The application of artificial intelligence in the judiciary has the potential to improve efficiency, reduce administrative burdens, identify relevant legal materials, and facilitate access to justice. At the same time, algorithmic systems introduce significant challenges relating to accuracy, transparency, bias, explainability, accountability, data quality, and human oversight. This article examines the emerging role of artificial intelligence in judicial decision-making and evaluates the opportunities and risks associated with computational assistance in courts. It argues that artificial intelligence should primarily function as a decision-support technology rather than an independent substitute for judicial reasoning. The article proposes a human-centred framework based on transparency, explainability, algorithmic auditing, data protection, judicial supervision, and continuous evaluation. It further examines the potential consequences of biased training data and automated recommendations on fairness and equality. The study concludes that responsible integration of artificial intelligence can strengthen judicial efficiency, but technological systems must remain subordinate to legal principles, human judgment, and institutional accountability.
